Big thanks to Quake1028 for opening this splendid brew (#01376). Pours deep dark abyss like with decent mocha head for such a huge beer. The aroma is licorice, chocolate, coffee and a decent load of alcohol. The nose is a bit light. The taste starts mildly viscous (not as viscous as I was expecting) with roastiness mixed with chocolate and coffee. The ABV is there and noticeable but at 16% it is well hidden. Midway the ABV sensation grows some with rich creamy chocolate followed by more coffee. Into the finish notes of licorice and dark fruity esters are also noticed as the taste concludes. The roasty, burnt, chocolate malts and coffee seem to linger for an extended period of time. I would love to try this again with a decade or more of age on it.

Pitch black with one of the darkest heads I’ve seen. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, molasses, whiskey, vanilla. The molasses seems to appear twice, with the second coming being very sweet. The body on this beer is silky smooth. One of the nicest bodies I’ve had. Roasted coffee, chocolate, malty, molasses, some vanilla, anise. The alcohol is so well hidden. Insanely smooth chocolate and coffee. Finish is strong roasted. The alcohol only shows up when it warms you over. No real alcohol taste. I’d be happy drinking only this the rest of my life. Unfortunatly, I’ll compare all future imperials to this one; and they’ll most likely lose.

Thick, inky black pour - fairly hot aroma, but nice vinous complexity going on, with plum and fig hiding in the background - present alcohol, but much less than you’d expect from the abv - boozy, but in a good and tasty way, like hot chocolate with some rum thrown in - warming, with some cinnamon spiciness to it - some light smoky hints - tasty.

[i] Bottle in the company of Casey, Traci and Loz [/i] Pours black with a tan head that quickly disappears. This has a festive aroma that reminds one of Xmas I couldn’t quite point out the familiarity of it but it certainly wasn’t port or sherry I was getting maybe some dark burnt molasses hinting as Traci noted that it could be dark rum that I was getting? The flavour was quite staggering, whilst this really was a beast in terms of it’s strength it was so well crafted you just had to admire it for what it was, a truly world class beer. The stickiness coats the glass, and the fumes continues to waft as you take each sip totally bombarding the senses this is the drink equivalent of Raquel Welch in One Million Years BC, a thing of great beauty indeed maybe the presentation box should be a fur clad affair? Wonderful rich dark fruits, some quality chocolate the alcohol is there but never once intruding, I’ve got to stop writing and just savour this. This is up there with Westvletern 12, and is a quite staggering beer. Many, many thanks to Casey and Traci three great beers finishing with this quite legendary beauty, cheers.

(Odeed’s bottle #02399 by way of footbalm); nose of alcohol (strong and bourbony), chocolate, coffee, and old wood (not vanillay). Transparent very dark brown with a ring of tan bubbles around the glass edges; Flavor of chocolate, coffee, and Jim Beam. Body is medium but the 16% really shows.

Odense Tasting at Christian Scheffel ’s palace: Pitch black with creamy brown head. The aroma is fabolous. Dark roasted malts & fruits. Chocolate, cofeee, toffee & alcohol. Alcohol is very well hidden. Only light warmth. This reminds me of Avery’s Mephiopheles stout. Sticky & oily palate. Smooth & thick. Long finish!! Extremely good & breathtaking!

Black with a disappearing light brown head. Intense and complex aroma with caramel, toffee, chocolate, licorice and some alcohol. It’s sweet, but it’s well balanced by both roast malt and hops bitterness and alcohol.

Black color. Light roasted malt aroma. Good chocolate flavor, too much alcohol.

Thick mouthfeel, oily, too much alcoholic, but at least the flavors are well mixed (malt, caramel, some roasted malt, very light liquorice); sweet and with high bitterness. It ends even with some rhubarb candies..
Too strong and without complexity. I prefer to drink Italian Amaro (digestive herbal liquors).
I added a couple of points when finishing my (warm) glass a couple of hours later; the flavors are more sticky, it’s sweeter and with more liquorice.
