Clear warm alcohol burning feeling. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bitterness. Bottle #02965, shared by maniac. Thanks! This stuff is freakin’ amazing. Chocolate brown color with light head. To my knowledge I don’t have synesthesia, but the first word that came to mind when I smelled this was dark. It has a dark aroma. Also, prunes, toffee and alcohol. Taste is malty as all hell. Toffee, brown sugar, caramel. Alcohol is very noticeable in the beer, but it blends perfectly. Amazing stuff.

Dark black body with a small creamy light brown head. Coffee, roast, rum soaked fruit and caramel aroma. Huge roast flavor, light caramel, more rum soaked fruit. Full body with moderately low carbonation.

500 ml. bottle shared by and with Gregis. Bottle #01714. Pour is all black with a 1/2 inch deep tan head that fades almost immediately. Aroma begins faint, though as it warmed revealed some red wine, roasting coffee, and cooking/roasting meat. Also some alcohol heat present in the nose. Taste is very winey (Merlot / Cabernet), also a bunch of raisin fruity-malt. Big heat in the finish. Palate is medium, very flat and slick. Big wine flavors are present throughout. Very interesting effort, truly nothing like anything I have had before. Thanks for sharing this one Greg!

Bottle #06073. Dark black color with a small, frothy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, strong coffee, roasted, burnt, caramel, licorice, alcohol, dark fruit / berry. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, syrupy, dry, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light to moderate alcoholic. Very very nice imperial stout so complex, powerfull in aroma and flavor but still easy to drink. *

Had the pleasure of sampling this at the 1/27/2008 Pittsburgh ratebeer.com gathering upstairs, Sharp Edge Creekhouse. It will be a long time, if ever I am invited again and I see a spread of bottles like I did there - ever again. I am not good enough for the beers that were that we sampled! For example, how about this beer; Dark Horizon first edition. Strongish alky aroma that is alarming but smells better than most high alky brews. Black as coal but not as viscous as I would have expected. No carbonation what so ever. IMHO, not a beer, more like whiskey or wine. Over the top whiskey and coffee, tastes somewhat like the coffee grampah Laurenzi used to drink after work and dinner. Perfect example of the style but does not rate high on my lager lovin enjoyability scale!

Last and the best beer from X-mas package sent by Papsoe (thanks), shared with Doggythedog.
Bottled(500ml). -Deep, deep black coloured, small but lasting dark brown head, pleasant alcoholic chocolate and whiskey nose. Malty, slight alcoholic and pure chocolate taste with notes of coffee, dried fruits and licorice. Well balanced high alcohol percentage. Delicious brew and the best imperial stout that I’ve tried.
Once again huge thanks to Papsoe for this one.

Bottle courtesy of Papsoe (a huge, huge thanks!), shared with ozujsko Poured an opaque black body with a small-medium sized brown headr. The nose was odd, sourish (in a good way), a touch of chocolate and a touch of alcohol, resembling some rakija. A pleasant, heavy, sweet taste, chocolate, visible alcohol... not terribly complex but very nicely balanced and damn pleasant... I completely forgot this was 16%... wow. Not your run of the mill imperial stout, not a chance.

Big thanks to Quake1028 for opening this splendid brew (#01376). Pours deep dark abyss like with decent mocha head for such a huge beer. The aroma is licorice, chocolate, coffee and a decent load of alcohol. The nose is a bit light. The taste starts mildly viscous (not as viscous as I was expecting) with roastiness mixed with chocolate and coffee. The ABV is there and noticeable but at 16% it is well hidden. Midway the ABV sensation grows some with rich creamy chocolate followed by more coffee. Into the finish notes of licorice and dark fruity esters are also noticed as the taste concludes. The roasty, burnt, chocolate malts and coffee seem to linger for an extended period of time. I would love to try this again with a decade or more of age on it.
