Brown-black with red highlights. Coffee, black ink, solid liquorice sweets, and a minty finish. Coffee, smoked ham, ink-y, lot of syrup, ending on a fierce hopbitterbite. Roasted at the same time, of course. Unbelievably chewy, smooth as none. Alcoholwarming only in the aftertaste, dangerous to boot! Exceptional beerI Halleluiah to Jacob, after searching years after this beer, blackmailing beerpubowners and brewer, here it is. And it was worth it all.

My one #3006. My 500th rating (491 according to RB, though).
Appearance: Very dark brown, almost black. Tan/Brown head, not too much of it. Aroma: Coffee, dark malt. Vinous. Slightly roasted. Dark fruit when warmer. Caramel. Taste: Wow. Vinous, dark fruit. Coffee and chocolate. Bit of alcohol taste. Impressive. Info: 500ml bottle, 19/9-2008

Schwere Kost! Pours deep black into a snifter. Mocha head recedes to hug rim. Smoky pit fruit aromas. Boozy and smooth with a sweet roasted fruit middle and a lasting licorice alcohol burn.

3/2011 - I only ever got to try this one once and despite the exorbitant price it was easily worth it. Just a marvelous beer all the way around++++ Sampled from a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark black color with a medium sized dark brown head. The aroma was very intense and complex mixing port wine, sherry, sweet ripe fruits and chocolate. The flavor was a wonderfully rich and complex mix of bitter, then sweet malts with sherry, ripe fruits, roastiness, sweet chocolate syrup and tangy ripe fruits. The finish was full of port, roasty malts and bitter coffee. There was a lingering tangy sweetness. The alcohol was rather well hidden given the strength. The mouthfeel was silky smooth. I looked long and hard for flaws but could not find any. Usually these highly hyped beers tend to disappoint me but this one far exceeded my expectations. One of the most interestingly deep beers I have ever had. Perfection in a glass.

Bottle, thanks to Martin for sharing! Deep, black body. Off-white light head which disappears very fastly. Aroma of liquorice, wood, liquor, ... very complex and well balanced. Moderately bitter, moderately sweet flavour. Very very nice and very complex. Woow.

A great find for only $10. I didn’t know it was supposed to be $25 or more until later. Bottle # 02190. It is an incredible beer. It has been awhile since I have been really impressed by an imperial stout, and this one exceeded my expectations. It is a very complex beer. Unremarkable but good appearance, black, thick and heavy. Almost no carbonation, in the character of an English imperial stout. The aroma has smoke and sweet malt. Great flavor with coffee and chocolate, mildly roasted malt, more smoke, red wine with tannins, and dry grape skins. Outstanding palate. Considerably better than the Darklord 07 tasted the same night.
