Traditional bottom-fermented bock, which can induce nostalgic feelings, brewed the Oedipus way. This means a bock with hop aromas present, but not predominant due to the traditional hop varieties. This keeps the chocolate and toast notes from the malt intact. The aftertaste is slightly dry and quite bitter.

Bottle at home. Clear mahogany with dark beige head. Licorice, soft roast, ash, brown sugar, dried figs, brown leaves, caramel, soft citrus hops, light herbal and soft CO2. Quite some licorice for a bock, and also a bit more hops than usual. Medium bitter and almost medium sweet. Solid medium bodied and quite some carbonation. OK, it’s not too sweet which I like, but the licorice aroma I don’t really enjoy. 🍁 🍂 🌿

Bottle at home. Clear warm dark brown with fluffy light tan head. Sweet malts, caramel, butterscotch, nutshells, brown bread, yeast. Quite sweet and bitter, yeast has a very light sour touch to it. Full bodied and soft carbonation. A herfstbock, not more, not less. Could have been from InBev. Draught @ the source. Dark brown color. Dense beige head with some retention. Aroma's: roasty, light vegetal. Retronasal: worty/grainy sweetish, roast, toasted bread/ryebread, light hoppy sourness. Flavor is moderate sweet with moderate roast bitterness. Medium bodied. Finishes with some roasty bitterness.

0.33 l bottle from 'Drankenspeciaalzaak van Haastregt/Lamers', bottled in August 2018. Clear, dark reddish brown with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity aroma of caramel, nuts, blueberry and some citrus. Moderately sweet, malty, slightly bitter, a bit fruity, even gently grassy-resiny taste of caramel, nuts, blueberry and citrus, followed by a short, moderately bitter, slightly grassy-resiny finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Pretty hoppy for a Bock, not bad but doesn't really work with the style I think. Pleasant beer anyway.

33cl Bottle at The Black Smith. Deep dark brown colour, beige head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malts, rye, some dark fruits. Flavour is dry, malty, roast, dark chocolate, pumpernickel but not sweet, some figs, cocoa, dry bitter finish. Medium bodied, slick. This is how a Dutch bock should taste imho.

Thuis uit een flesje. Mooie donkere kleur, goed schuim. Prima smaak, niet te zoet en te bitter. Niet direct de volle "boksmaak".
