Lost adrift on the vast ocean, a team of Amundsen's explorers had a salt water induced fever dream. They dreamt of a powerfully balanced IPA with tropical, piney, hop flavors, dripping with malt sustenance. With their last remaining energy they carved the recipe into the deck of their raft. The last one who survived would make this IPA as a dedication to his lost brothers at sea. What you are holding in your hands is that beer. Meticulously reproduced by Timothy Albert, the lone survivor of the Great Hoptipus Attack of 1897.

Ingredients: Water, barley malt (Pilsner, Carared, Caraaroma), hops (Centennial, Columbus, Simcoe, Citra, Cascade), yeast.

Keg at Cotteridge Wines, pre convention IV, 23/06/18. Golden amber with a decent off white covering. Nose carries old skool IPA aromas ... ripe citric peel, pine needle, straw, dusty hops. Taste comprises orange pith, caramel, straw, toasted grains, light breads, pine needle. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a dusting of balanced hop bitterness. Passable IPA.

23rd June 2018; while awaiting the start of the 2018 Cotteridge gathering I treated myself to a half-pint of this (keg). I did have most of it, but one or two might have taken a sip for ratings sake. I certainly had sips of three other draft offerings before the event got under way properly. Anyway this poured a golden/brown colour, beige topping. Decent blend of tropical fruitiness and semi-sweet malty molasses, liked it. My first beer of sixty or so on the day.

Draft at Cotts 2018. Pours clear gold with a foamy white head. The nose holds perfume, pine, orange peel. Medium sweet flavour, white grape, ripening citrus, faint pine. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly resinous finish, more pine, orange, white grape. Decent.
