Crafted by head brewer Mark Slater, Theakston Peculier IPA was created to live up to the legendary status of our iconic ‘Peculier’ name. Originally brewed as a seasonal ale, its bold flavour and exceptional quality earned it a permanent place in our core range.
Brewed with 100% British ingredients, Peculier IPA pays tribute to the historic origins of India Pale Ale — a beer style born in the 19th century to accompany British troops on long sea voyages to India. The high hop content and alcohol strength were designed to preserve the beer’s freshness, creating a robust, characterful ale that has since inspired a global brewing phenomenon.
Today, with renewed excitement around IPA styles and the wealth of traditional ingredients grown in Britain, our brewing team has brought their full creativity to bear. The result? A beer that honours tradition while embracing modern craftsmanship.
Theakston Peculier IPA is brewed with the finest of British malted barley and three new world, English grown hops - Harlequin, Jester and Olicana to deliver a velvety texture, a honeyed fruit aroma, and a beautifully balanced finish. It's a beer that celebrates the very best of British brewing — bold, refreshing, and uncompromisingly Peculier.

Pour is a clear tan with a large white head. Aroma is bready, earthy malt with a touch of hops. Flavor is pretty much like the aroma. An earthy malt with a spicy hop finish. A little watery in the end but this is probably what IPA tasted like 100 years ago.
