Crafted by head brewer Mark Slater, Theakston Peculier IPA was created to live up to the legendary status of our iconic ‘Peculier’ name. Originally brewed as a seasonal ale, its bold flavour and exceptional quality earned it a permanent place in our core range.

Brewed with 100% British ingredients, Peculier IPA pays tribute to the historic origins of India Pale Ale — a beer style born in the 19th century to accompany British troops on long sea voyages to India. The high hop content and alcohol strength were designed to preserve the beer’s freshness, creating a robust, characterful ale that has since inspired a global brewing phenomenon.

Today, with renewed excitement around IPA styles and the wealth of traditional ingredients grown in Britain, our brewing team has brought their full creativity to bear. The result? A beer that honours tradition while embracing modern craftsmanship.

Theakston Peculier IPA is brewed with the finest of British malted barley and three new world, English grown hops - Harlequin, Jester and Olicana to deliver a velvety texture, a honeyed fruit aroma, and a beautifully balanced finish. It's a beer that celebrates the very best of British brewing — bold, refreshing, and uncompromisingly Peculier.

Keg at the Fox & Hounds, West Burton. Is this "craft" beer for Yorkshire village pubs? It was even brought out in a stemmed glass! Whatever it's meant to be, it's not very good. It's got a generic fruity berry flavour, a little caramel, and a metallic aftertaste. There's nothing craft, peculiar or IPA about it (despite the stemmed glass) - it's just bland and forgettable.

On keg at Robin Hood Aughton - clear amber thicm lasting head. A bit of a gusher. Nose is a bit bland but taste holds up well in the hop stakes. Bit maltier than expected. Good rounded mouthful.

Keg @ River Lounge, Sowerby Bridge. Dark amber-red with a small creamy head. Crisp enough with a slightly soured berry-fruitiness evident in both aroma and taste. There’s somewhat of a stewed fruitiness about it too.

Keg at Oscars Bar. Near clear dark amber coloured body. Mostly remaining beige head. Dried fruity smell. Flavoured with caramel, nuts and earthy malts and followed by dried fruity endnotes. Strange kind of IPA, quite drinkable though (Hull 26.11.2015).
