Hopped with 3 varieties of new world hops, set against a malt backbone of 5 different malts Maris the Otter is a complex modern take on English Bitter. Named in homage to both Maris Otter, the most supreme of brewing grains, which celebrates its 50th birthday in the launch year of Brew York (2016) and the Otter that inhabits the river Foss directly behind the Brew York Craft Brewery.

Cask at Curious Gnome, Chester. Pour a slightly hazy “bitter brown” with a medium sized off-white head and good lacing. The aroma is a pleasant mix of nuts, malts and autumn fruits. Malts again to the fore in the mouth, but with some bitterness too, floral hops and hints of caramel. A little spiciness later on, but the finish is quite sweet despite this. Not bad at all..

Looks like a perfect bitter. Clear, dark amber, white fluffy head. Smells sweet and malty. Tastes like a very standard but good bitter. A little fruity, malty, a touch of light hop. Very decent.

Cask at Cask. Pours a clear amber gold with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has lots of bread with some hay and a bit of an earthy grain note supporting. Flavor has a real nice bread and grain with some straw and a hint of sweetness backing.

330ml can bought at Piccadilly Tap. Shared with Finn. Clear ruby-brown body, spotty lacing from a film type layer. Dark fruits and malty sweetness on the nose. Bread, dark fruits and earthy malts to the taste buds. Fair bittersweet finish. Satisfying. (Hotel room, Preston 06.02.2019).
