Hopped with 3 varieties of new world hops, set against a malt backbone of 5 different malts Maris the Otter is a complex modern take on English Bitter. Named in homage to both Maris Otter, the most supreme of brewing grains, which celebrates its 50th birthday in the launch year of Brew York (2016) and the Otter that inhabits the river Foss directly behind the Brew York Craft Brewery.

(Cask at The Lyric, Soho, London, 14 July 2026) Amber colour with frothy, tan head. Malty, hoppy nose with caramel, bread, earthy/dusty hops and some citrus. Malty taste with notes of caramel, bread, dried fruit, apricots and a balanced earthy bitterness. Light body, quite dry. Well balanced and tasty bitter. Nice one.

Tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours dark amber, unattractive, with very fine, light cream foam. Aroma is a little malty and caramel, and earthy. Body is average, with weak carbonation. Taste is medium bitter, continuing also in the final.

super nice full bodied sugary sweet malty aroma with some hoppy balance and a little fruitiness, top dollar malty aroma. Bit sweeter than i would have expected an ESB to be, but really really nice aroma.
flavor is not up to snuff with aroma, but still pretty nice, proably closer to english bitter. full and rounded hoppy flavor, several hoppy flavors combining very well to a hop-wall of bitterness. crisp malty flavor with a tiny bit of sugary sweetness as well as some nuttyness and very very very faint fruity notes. all in all a great bitter, good lingering hoppy bitterness.

Toasted and lightly sweet malty, some twiggy herbal hoppy notes, nutty accents, toasted grains, medium to light bodied, toasted malty finish. Decent for a “canned” bitter.

--Sample, thanks oh6gdx! -- Piney citrus and burnt toast up front. Sweetish with light body and clean mouthfeel. Grainy toast and piney citrus. Very bitter finish.
