Having a Christmas beer together with food is a Norwegian Christmas tradition. The same applies to aquavit. The E.C. Dahls Christmas Beer is a tribute to this dram. The brewmasters wanted to create a brew with the traditional aquavit spices: cumin, star anise, orange peel, fennel seeds and coriander seeds. Lille Bjørn is therefore an untraditional Norwegian Christmas beer that celebrates traditions.
Lille Bjørn has a nut-brown colour. The aroma is lightly sweet with a balanced touch of aquavit spices and light, fresh notes of orange peel. The use of Münchenermalt, as well as Belgian yeast give this beer a malty backbone and fruity notes.

Bottle at home. Has a clear deep reddish brown colour with a beige head. Aroma of caramel, dried fruit, wood and licorice. The flavour is similar with the addition of spices and berries. Has a slick mouth feel, light to medium body and bitterness. A malty, tasteful and well-balanced.

330ml bottle bought at Eurospar Tomasjord. Unclear, dark brown body with a shade of red. Clingy lacing. Bubbly, low fawn-coloured head. Modest smell of Belgian yeast strains, herbs and dried fruits. Doughy flavours with moments of dried fruits and caraway spices. A backdrop of yeasty fruitiness. So and so. (Tromsø 18.12.2017).

330 ml bottle, as Dahls Lille Bjørn Juleøl, from Helgø MENY Sola. ABV is 4.6%, IBU 20. Brewed with aquavit spices (star anise, coriander, fennel and caraway), hop is Sorachi Ace, Belgian ale yeast. Deep reddish brown colour, small off-white head. "Dusty" and dryish aroma, notes of said spices, but not as strong as expected. Thin mouthfeel. Medium dry flavour, moderate notes of said spices. Decent enough to drink, but hardly a beer I’ll buy again.

Clear dark nutty color with fine thick tan head. The head stays for a long time. Good lacing. Good intensity in the aroma with a fine round mellow sweetness. Medium body with a fine carbonation level. Tad sweet and an ok bitterness. Spices, toffee and dried fruits in the flavor. A quite nice and tasty ale at 4,6%

Flaske 330ml fra Eurospar Tomasjord. Mørk brun med et lite rødskjær. Høyt luftig skum med spotlacing. Forsiktig krydderaroma. Smaken det samme. Ukomplisert kryddersmak. Virket sammenrasket.

Huge pale beige head. Clear deep dark red body. Fruity spicy aroma with rock sugar notes. Dryish cinnamon and aniseed taste with dried fruit notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish spicy fennel and caraway seeds aftertaste with wooden coriander notes. It’s quite nice, but very spicy. The spice has been done with some subtlety, so they come out quite well in the finish, but overall it’s too much. An OK beer to sip, but not to drink. (0.33l bottle, from Meny Triaden, Lørenskog.)
