Barrel Aged Redankulous is the last test batch of Redankulous before it became a Backstage beer in 2015, and won that nifty gold medal, and then aged in Oak Bourbon Barrels for 485 days. It gained a delightful bump up in ABV and pours a tad darker shade of reddish brown. Enjoy this Big ol’ B.A. Beauty!

Red beer, thick white head. very malty aroma. taste is super malty as well, quite dry buit with fruit and a decent whack if hop there as well. No great complexity to this but it balances a few flavours really nicely. Good stuff.

Sample at the brewpub. The beer pours a brownish-mahogany color with a medium light beige head that diminishes gradually to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, malt and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, vanilla, malt and hops. The finish is oaky with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Draft. Deep brown body with a beige head. Aroma of bourbon, caramel, vanilla, oak, alcohol. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, moderate carbonation. Rich mouthfeel approaching chewy. Sweet vanilla and bourbon taste with some overripe fruit notes. Alcohol and hop bitterness in the finish. Nice sipping beer.

Enjoyed on tap at Founders in Grand Rapids, MI while on a friends bachelor party. Unfortunately I didn’t take tasting notes, but remember this being great. Pitch black, thick, dark tan head, rich in bourbon which mellow out the hopiness, really really well done.

Tap at Founders. Massive bourbon and toffee, some resinous hops and bitter green leaves. More bourbon vanilla with some dried grape skins. Over medium sweet and bitter. Over medium bodied with soft carbonation. Interesting beer, and the bourbon here is really good, but it does clash a bit with the bitterness.
