Hertog Jan Dubbel is a traditional top-fermenting dark beer. The designation 'dubbel' refers to the double amount of ingredients used. Hertog Jan Dubbel is tasted by all senses, allowing for an optimal enjoyment of color, smell and taste. Firstly you poor it into a glass and marvel at the foam and the pretty reddish brown color. Then you smell the full, soft aroma. You take a sip and taste the rich, malty character. And finally, you enjoy the somewhat sweet aftertaste. This traditional beer has an alcohol percentage of 7.3%. The secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a fresher and richer taste and aroma.

Ordinary Belgian dubbel. Boring and uninspiring, but not bad. Good in or with winter food.

50 cl. ceramic bottle @ home, bought @ hogerdijk, Culemborg. dark brown with a beige head. Caramel aroma with roasted malts, yeast, cinnamon and dried fruits. Quite thin mouthfeel but full bodied taste, if that makes any sense. Long lasting aftertaste. One of the classic Dutch beers and really good at that.

Smells like candied malt. Pours cloudy dark. Not much head or lacing, low carbonation. A lot of yeast in aroma and some floral hops. Palate is medium, not a long leave or anything. Big clay looking bottle with cork.

0,5 liter ’kruik’ @ home. Hazy amber/red color, average sized white to off-white head. Smell malts, sweetness. Taste malts, slightly sweet, some bitter, but a little flat as well. Low carbonation, low to medium body.

Bottle from Bierzwerg. Dark ruby color with huge beige head. Aroma of plums, roasted malt, caramel, molasses. Taste, plums, cherries, dates, chocolate, caramel, honey, earthy hints. Dry finish. Nice.

Bottled (from BierZwerg.de). Amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is caramel malts, some toffee, mild alcohol and some sweet spices. Flavour is caramel malts, some toffee, mild bitterness as well as some slight spices. Quite pleasant actually.

Bottle. A clear, brown beer topped by a small, dense, beige head. Some celler in the aroma, a little roasted malty touch too, but dried fruits pull the load. It’s quite on the palate, full-bodied, but the flavor is sweet with dried fruits and some roasted notes. A touch of celler as well. Bitter finish. A pleasant one I’d like to revisit. 100326

half litre in nice ceramic bottle. pours very dark brown, medium light-brown fine head. aroma is dark fruits, raisins, red wine. flavor is sweet, honey, slight sour flavor, a bit watery, but still feels very "full". nice flavor, some roasted stuff also in there. lots of stuff in the flavor just under the main impressions,including some of the aroma flavors.
