From tap at 5e Noordelijk Lentebierenfestival, Leeuwarden. Aroma is malty caramel, mild hops, and notes of sweetish ripe fruits. Flavour is above moderate sweet and mildly bitter. Body is medium. Quite malty for a beer called "Hoppig". Drinkable but not great.

330ml bottle [heavy gusher!]. Almost pure, white, macropore foam in the glass; settles after a while, ponds a clear, amber puddle. Zesty, citrusy hoppy aroma, sugary, caramel malty background, notes of orange zest, mandarine zest, rock sugar, a touch of toffee and liquorice. Taste is bitter, zesty, citrusy hoppy and sugary, caramel malty, hints of orange peel, some rock sugar, liquorice, a touch of ammonia; lingering, bitter, leafy finish. Dissolved sugar enriched, watery texture, soft and cloying palate, soft, droopy, macropore carbonation. Full of technical flaws, off-flavours, almost inedible - worst beer for a long time.

Dutch IPA from a client brewer in Dokkum in northern Friesland; thanks Craftmember for sharing at 3B in Sneek. Egg-white, moussy, medium thick, slowly breaking head; initially clear orange blonde robe with peachy hue, misty with sediment, lots of visible sparkling. Aroma of hot toast, some vague DMS in the background (Brussels sprouts), sweetclover, biscuit, 'herbes de Provençe', dried orange peel, leftover dough. Fruity onset, peach and light apple peel notes, medium carb, sweetish core but not cloying in any way, rather a biscuity malt sweetness with bread-crusty edges and a thin honeyish layer of residual sugars on top. Ends with a long, rooty, resinous, peppery and wormwoody bitterness. Seems to be intended as a classic English IPA and in any case well-hopped for that intention, perhaps even a bit much... Too bad for that DMS touch, but with such powerful hop bitterness, this is easily forgiven. Not the worst in its - nowadays - ultra-rare category.

Bottle. Orange amber color. Grassy, herbal hops, white pepper and overripe tropical fruit in the aroma and flavor. Vegetable notes in the finish. Needs work.
