This style is brewed using a majority of beechwood-smoked malt (smoked in Bamberg). The smoke character is well integrated and balanced by a hint of roasted malt and German hops.

At Flatbread: pours amber with a white head. Aroma is meaty, smokey malt. Taste is lightly sweet. Moderate smokiness. Some smoky and sweet aftertaste.

Draft at brewpub. Copper clear medium bodied. Smoke taste is pronounced compared to underneath caramel sweetness. Sweet finish is lingering.

tap at the brewpub - Pours red with an off-white head. It has a mild aroma with a little malt and smoke that starts to come through as it warms. It’s hard to tell in this restaurant that has a wood fire pizza oven in the main room though. There’s already a bit of a smoky smell in the air. The flavor is sweet with smoke coming through in the finish and more as it warms until it’s quite obvious. Caramel malt flavors lead into a dry, smoky finish. Pretty good.
