Bottle from Grocery Outlet. Average brown ale, but not even up to the standards of their Downtown Brown, so what’s the point? Spicy, only in the faintest sense. Dull pour, slightest elements of chocolate, cinnamon and assorted other "winter" spices.

12 ounce bottle. Mahogany color topped with a moderate creamy beige head. Faint roasted malt nose. Hints of burnt caramel and toffee. Sweet roasted malt flavor is pleasant and spicy with cocoa and cinnamon-like notes. Spruce-like hops in midtaste balance this nicely. Slightly warming though the 8% alcohol is well hidden.

A fantastic American brown ale. The aroma is bread, honey and citrus. The taste is biscuits, almonds grapefruit and glucose. Nice length, nice body. A lovely warming winter brown ale.

Pour is a brown with a large tan head. Aroma is an ok roasted chocolate and caramel malt. Flavor is more chocolaty malt with a bit of roasted nuts. Finish is again a ok roasty malt. Alcohol is no problem. For a brown ale its decent but it does not offer anything beyond the average. Another bargain bin pick-up that is still drinking well.

Bottle. Clear brown with a pale beige head. Spicy chocolate aroma with some hazelnuts. Smooth, almost creamy texture. Certainly full-bodied for a brown ale, but then I saw how strong it is. Sweet and very chocolatey with nuts, some bread, moderate but well-defined bitterness. A touch of booze at the end too. Pretty tasty, but 8%!? for a pleasant quaffing beer seems over the top - even if it’s for après- falling off a mountain. Still, good beer.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Total Wine - McLean, 3/4/13

Aroma: The nose is sweet and roasty, chocolate, caramel, some nuts, and dark fruit
Appearance: It pours a brown color with a red hue, a beige-brown head, and some mid-heavy lace
Flavor: The flavor, like the nose suggested, is pretty sweet with lots of roasted malts as well
Palate: This one is light-medium bodied, a bit sticky, and has average-plus carbonation
Overall Impression: This is a pretty solid beer. It came off a bit too sweet for me, but it has some really nice components. This one is definitely worth trying.
