Nov 2006: If you can’t get it draught, a bottle will have to do! 4 Pint bottles for £5.00 in my local Morrison’s supermarket, damn good value for such a fine beer. My scores are not as high, as my cask review, but this beer is so good, a dead bottled version is still a fantastic beer and enables less fortunate people (who can’t get it cask conditioned) a chance to try a truely great English Bitter. Still looks good, but the head is not the same, not as natural as the cask head. Aroma slightly below the fresh hoppy wiff, the taste is almost there, as is the mouthfeel. It is still very, very drinkable. Get some.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Sar HaMashkaot Ramat Gan. Thanks Dagan. BBD 9/30/11. Clear amber. Malty, honey-ish and caramelly aroma with some fruitiness, some flowery notes and light hoppiness. Sweetish flavor with some malt, a bit of graininess and a bitter finish. Medium-bodied. Seems a bit old.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café Sveavägen, Stockholm, 14 Sep 2011) Reddish amber colour with brief, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with dried fruit, raisins and crispbread. Malty, slightly fruity taste with notes of dark bread, raisins, prunes, toasty malt and a slightly bitter-sweet finish. Medium body, with balanced sweetness. Quite nice.

Bottle from Morrisons
Appearance - Light brown, thick white frothy head with some lacing.
Aroma - Spicy hops, biscuity malt, fruity, bit of raisin. Good aroma
Taste - Intially, caramel malt, spicy hops....sweet malts, fruity raisin dominate in the middle, then bittering hops take over and wreck it all...(reduces the taste score)
Palate - Soft carb, smooth, but the finish is a strong amount of bittering hops that overcomes everything else, very dry, quinine, which gets more intense and lingers for too long. The next sip gets rid of it, tastes good, then that finish again.
Overall - A good beer ruined by an over-bitter, over-lingering quinine-like finish.

Bottled 500ml. -from Biererei, Vienna. Clear copper coloured, small off-white head, light fruity nose. Moderate malty, citrusy fruity and hoppy with mild caramel presence near the end. Dryish bitter finish. To be honest expected better one.
