(Bottle) Dark amber colour with frothy, beige head leaving traces of lacing. Malty, nutty nose with dark fruit, caramel, dark rye bread, orange peel and a hint of chocolate. Malty, nutty taste with toffee, chocolate, dark rye bread, dark fruit and a touch of orange and earthy hops in the finish. Lovely balance. Slightly above medium body, smooth mouthfeel, balanced sweetness. Nice beer. In short: toffee, nuts, chocolate and orange in harmony.

(Re-rate, cask at Gallows Bird, 20170106) The beer dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, toasted malts and caramel. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were grass, earth, malts, caramel and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. A pleasant malty brew with English hops.

(Old rating: Cask at Gallows Bird on 2008-01-26) A red-brownish colour. Medium head. Roasted malts in taste. Nothing special. Rating: 6-3-7-3-12

50 cL bottle. Pours slight cloudy and deep amber with a lacing off-white head. Fruity and malt driven aroma. Flavour is roasted malt with a light acidic touch and a light toffee malt note. Fruity and bitter hoppy flavours following before a more breadish malt flavour re-conquers the palate. Ends medium dry and bitter. Nice and light malt spice English ale.

Cask, Thomas Rigbys, Liverpool. Dense amber colour. Malty caramel aroma. Very rich and heavy. Almost christmas puddingesque. Pretty good.

Bottle picked up at Sainsburys, Kidlington, 0812-07 Pours brown in colour with some ruby highlights topped off with an off white head. Great fruity flavour, bit tangy, bit malty but lovely full flavour, there are nuts there as well and some caramel, really nice beer (suprised that I hadn’t rated this one before)

Chestnut coloured with a slight white head. Aroma of toffee, molasses and mincemeat. Flavour was of Christmas cake with plenty of nuts. Finish was bitter to offset all the sweetness. Very enjoyable.
