Deep amber in colour, Old Winter Ale is a strong beer with a malt, cookie and liquorice aroma. The prominent Crystal malts add sweet, nutty flavours, balanced by floral notes from Target, Challenger and Northdown hops.

Backlog July 2015. Clear copper red body under a dense off-white head. Mild aroma with caramel malt, toffee and dry fruit. Taste is quite sweet with caramel malt, dry fruit and moderate bitterness. Medium body and sweet malty aftertaste. Drinkable, but sweet and not very exciting.

500ml bottle: BBD 1st December 2022. Drank at home on 6th March 2022. Mahogany coloured body with an off-white/beige head. Malty molasses in the nose and taste, it's pretty sweet throughout. Expected some spiciness, but it didn't arrive. It's fine but I'd hoped for more flavour.

Bottle from Waitrose, Frimley, when I was in search of Vintage Ale. Aroma is very sweet - sugary dark fruits with caramel and a touch of sweet liquorice. Clear cola brown. Thin foamy light beige head. Initial sourness before bitterness comes through. The sweet dark fruits are in there but you also have citrus and quinine. Cloves. Cinnamon. Ginger. Underlying malts. Medium bodied. Slick. Soft yet prickly carbonation. Long dry slightly astringent finish. It's alright. Would prefer warming dark fruits as opposed to the bitter and sour parts.
