On cask at the Teesdale Hotel in Middleton. Appearance - deep amber to chestnut with a nice head. Nose - sweet malt and gentle dark fruits. Taste - more of the same maybe even getting into raisins. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly good finish. Overall - a decent winter bitter.

Boxing Day, 2014: 500ml bottle BBD 11 Oct 2015. Poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard at home while watching the rain lash down outside. Deep, dark ruby/brown body, on top a full, uneven beige blanket. Roasted malty nose with a wintery spice twist. The taste similar as the aroma, malty and spicy with a mild marmalade flavour in the background. Decent Christmassy/Winter feel to the brew.

Bottle: Nose is very sweet toffee, lots of malt, hint of smoke. The toffee is very pronounced an appealing. Taste is slightly bitter hops, malt, a bitter orange peel/marmalade note which is unappealing. Watery finish. Very very bland beer, even for a supermarket bottle.

50cl bottle from Tesco’s, Camberley. An attractive reddish copper colour with a tight cream head; spicy malt aroma; malty and smooth in the mouth with some orange marmalade and a little chocolate; and a soft, dry, bittersweet finish. Rather moreish - a good Christmas special.
