In 1876 Damm created a beer that was adapted to suit the Mediterranean climate. Lighter than Central European beers that were designed for colder climates, we know it as a Mediterranean lager.

Bottle. Clear yellow with a decent head. Aroma and taste of corn, rice and straw. More malts than hops. Sweetish. Strong carbonation. It’s only ok when served ice cold in Spain.

On tap. Lots of malty biscuit notes and a little vinegar sharpness. Pretty nice balance between the two, without too much sweetness, but ultimately really boring.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark golden color with a large soapy-creamy white head that left good lacing. The aroma was sweet and yeasty with perfume and a bit of grass. The flavor was sweet and yeasty with perfume, citrus and grass. Medium length finish. light body. Not terrible for what it is.

Bought an Estrella 12 oz. single bottle at the local Albertson’s. The appearance is typical lager, a light yellow but with a decent white head and active carbonation. I do not detect much scent, a touch of straw. The taste is significantly better. I get some grass and resin and grain, finishing with a slight bitterness. Nothing to flip over but far from bad.

0.5 l can from a local supermarket in Zagreb. Clear pale golden, tiny white to off-white head. Hay, perfumed, traces of hops. Fake sweetness, very light bitter. Light to medium body, medium to high carbonation, abrupt finish. Bad.

Gold and frothy head are the highlights. Otherwise tastes of little and goes down easily.

0.33 l bottle at ’Moll Vell’, best before September 2017. Clear, golden yellow with a thin, fluffy, white head. Sweetish, grainy and a bit grassy aroma of straw and grains. Sweetish-malty, moderately grassy taste of straw, grains and some bread, followed by a short, slightly bitter, quite grassy and a bit metallic finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Okay!
