Carlsberg 1883; the amazing story of an old beer bottle found the cellars of the old Carlsberg brewery. Through a complicated scientific process, the scientists in the Carlsberg Research Laboratory managed to grow and purify the original Carlsberg yeast from 1883 from the bottle. This yeast gave the beer its name: Carlsberg 1883.

A copper-coloured beer with a compact head. It has a unique and distinct flavour, and a clean and fresh nose with a delicate hint of malt and caramel.

330ml can from the lobby at my Wake Up hotel. Bright copper coloured body, slowly declining beige head leaving rings of lace down the glass. Modest aroma of brown malts. Caramel malts to the taste profile, hints of earth. Malt-driven end, almost papery dry. Soft in the mouth. Just alright after the journey from the high north. (Hotel room, Copenhagen 09.05.2018).

Tap at Carlsberg Brewery Copenhagen. A decent amber but nothing to scream about. (25/3/18) --- Tap at Cafe Nuka, Ilulisat. A very macro tasting amber lager. 3 to 2.6.

Red amber with a lasting white head. Malty aroma with grain and straw and a strong note of diacetyl. Sweetish malty flavour with diacetyl and grain. Not comparable to the Jacobsen version

Can. Nearly clear amber, quickly fading offwhite head. Fruity, caramely aroma. Similar flavour, light notes of nuts. No idea what the 'original' contributes here.

Can from Valby Kvickly, Copenhagen, shared at home - a clear amber coloured pour with a small off-white head. Toasted and sweet malty with some notes of caramel, slight nutty accents, pretty light to watery body, touch of grassy hops into the bitter finish.
