The arrival of hops to the brewing scene in England in the 1500’s led to a moral panic. Hops were condemned as a “wicked and pernicious weed”, one which would lead to the erosion of social and moral standards. Thank goodness they were right. Here’s hoping that our homage to the original pernicious weed continues this gradual decline. Organic Rakau and whole cone Nelson Sauvin go head to head in this strong, golden, hoppy brew. Bitter, yes. Intensely hoppy, absolutely. Too much, never.

Tap. Hazy orange color with white head. Aroma is fresh grapes, kiwi, grassy, very nice! Taste is farty, kiwi again, caramel, toffee, not as great as the aroma. High carbonation, fruity finish. Not bad, but too farty in flavour.

Tap. Tropical, hopvine, mineral nose. Cloudy golden, creamy golden. Catty, acidic, farty on the palate. Medium, mellow body, catty finish.

Bomber shared by Marcus. Pours dark gold with a fizzy white head. Aroma is semi-dank and prunus fruits with white wine. Strong hop aroma. Med + body. Strong hop flavor - dark green stuff and it’s astringent. Dry. Arguably earthy. Bitter too. Very. Could be a preservative. Super tasty.

Bottle at work, thanks to Craig for bringing this back from NZ. Aromas of resinous and spiced orange, dank tropical fruit. Taste is light sweet, big hop bitterness, light booze note. Clean finish.

Can at Sorbon. Hazy orange with a white head. Sweet with hops, grapefruit, caramel, light mango and grass. The body was medium and the finish quite bitter. Not a bad one but a bit old.

Tap at Ale Arsenal. Sweet and a bit cloying. Golden-copper with a full white head. Aroma and flavor both included honey. Not too dank for the name.

Can 33 cl. Pours a hazy golden with a small, lacing white head. Heavy cat pee aroma. Rich, malty body, very fruity, massive hop load but not so sophisticated, raw, green and very bitter. 281116
