The arrival of hops to the brewing scene in England in the 1500’s led to a moral panic. Hops were condemned as a “wicked and pernicious weed”, one which would lead to the erosion of social and moral standards. Thank goodness they were right. Here’s hoping that our homage to the original pernicious weed continues this gradual decline. Organic Rakau and whole cone Nelson Sauvin go head to head in this strong, golden, hoppy brew. Bitter, yes. Intensely hoppy, absolutely. Too much, never.

28.01.2015, 0,65l bottle shared with ClubGonzo & friends:
Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly dry grassy, leafs, hops, sap, light malts, old moss, lawn, minerals. Taste is slightly dry grassy, lawn, hops, bark, leafs, hay, minerals, light malts, moss. Medium bitterness, slightly harsh mouthfeel. Fair enough. A bit over the top I guess...

Bomber from Whole Foods. Pours a clear orange hue with a medium white head. A big dank nose. Sweet, more dank notes, citrus, oranges especially. Smooth. In the end, this IPA asserts itself quite well, the tropical dank NZ hops are showcased and found excellent.

Tap at Garage 91 Aro. Slight hazy golden with white head. Thick dank hops, canned tropical fruits, peach, mango, thick haze marijuana, caramel, nice sweet malts, a bit of citrus, grassy finish. Over medium sweet and bitter. Almost full bodied. I’m not usually a fan of classic clear double IPAs but this is super good.

(Bottle) Hazy amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with resin, tropical fruit, passion-fruit, pineapple, caramel, honey, burnt rubber and a touch of ginger. Hoppy, fruity taste with grapefruit, passion-fruit, pineapple, resin, pears, caramel, honey, hints of ginger and a solid citric/resiny bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Sharp, sweet and possibly a bit unbalanced, but tasty with an impressive hop presence. Nice one.

From a 330ml can on 9/4/2018. Pours a slightly cloudy golden with a small head. The nose is dank, fruity and herbal. The flavour is quite citrussy with oodles of orange lemon and grapefruit, marmalade and a touch of honey. The hops are massive, grassy and herbal. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. A very good, rather intense DIPA. Hop fiends should definitley enjoy, those with delicate palates not so much.

Tap at Beermash, Melbourne. Poured a hazy straw colour with a frothy white head. The aroma is malt, big weedy resin hop citrus. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a dry grainy malt, warm alcoholic woody resin hop bitter palate palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

15th Dec 2017, five beers on draft from this brewery at the Stadium Brewing Company, Aliso Viejo, California, I had all five. Misty amber body, white head. Tropical fruits rule the roost here with a heavy hop presence giving a decent bitter taste and aftertaste.
