Bitter-sweet Red Ale, A style that you don't see around too much these days, and what a shame it is! Hawkshead's bitter-sweet, malty red is just the ticket if you fancy something a little on different! Very much a traditional beer, there's plenty of earthy and grassy notes to be found intermingled with a strong maltiness and plenty of bitter rye licks.

Cask at The Hanging Bat. Clear amber body with a dense beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of eggy fart, wood and autumn leaves. Flavour of weak tea, caramel, milk chocolate and a peppery finish. Thin body with an oily mouthfeel. No carbonation. Weird smell for such a mild flavour. The fartiest beer I’ve ever tried.

Hand-pulled half-pint in the Whippet Inn, a micropub in Litchfield on 25th April 2015. Red by name, red by nature (well almost), the off-white head being sat on an amber body with a slightly red hue to it. Malts rule the semi-sweet taste and aroma, with the hops giving a dry and mildly bitter finish.
