12 oz bottle of Mardi Gras Bock from Wegmans, West Seneca, NY. Golden amber with a tight cream head; caramel malt aroma; sweet caramel taste with a malty body, and a touch of spicy bitterness; before an earthy caramel finish.

A lightly hazed golden bock with a thick frothy off white head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with light fruity notes, grassy hops, OK. In mouth, grainy cereal malt with light grassy hops, roasted character, not bad.

Draft at the source. Crystal clear golden yellow color, white edge head. Aroma of biscuit and straw. Taste is similar. Light to medium body.

Great copper in the glass, malty nose. The beer starts smooth, malty with hints of red fruit. The mainpart is malty, easy to drink, slightly dry but still fruity. The aftertaste is medium, malty-dry with hints of bitterness.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, best before 5/11/2013. Pours fairly crystal clear pale orange copper color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of caramel, apple, pear, grape, biscuit, toast, brown sugar, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of malt, hop, and fruity ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, cracker, apple, pear, floral, grass, bread, toast, light pepper, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, light fruits, floral, grass, bread, toast, and earthiness on the finish for a bit. Good balance of malt, hop, and ester flavors; with no cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a slightly creamy, smooth, and fairly crisp mouthfeel that is good. Overall this is a very solid maibock. Good balance of all flavors; and very smooth to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.

New Beer Distributors, NY 355ml ($2): Pours a clear orange with a quickly dissipating head that leaves lacing. Aroma is candy and mild fruitiness. Taste is not that heavy. There just really ain’t enough of this. It sort of tastes like Jolly Ranchers light (without as much crappy artificial taste). Slightly sweet. Very uninteresting.
