33cl bottle; BBE Sep 2019. Drank at home on 29th Nov 2018, straight sided UK sleeve glass. Ruby hue to the dark brown body, tanned blanket of foam on top. The initial aroma and taste are of over roasted malts, the hops only kicking in during the later stages of the taste, adding a light bitterness to the already bitter maltiness. Interesting beer all round.

Bottle. Pours darkest brown. Aroma is strong citric hops and tropical hops over roasted malts. Body is heavy, quite intense, burnt but with a clear hop profile. Lively carbonation, never letting go, but not overpowered either. Some hops burn, even spices. Very good.

Bottle at gekke geit in den Haag. Pours black with a lovely head. Aroma is perfectly in style - dark malts, really hoppy, some coffee and chocolate, hints of smoke. Medium body. Flavour has a perfect balance - malty with medium sweetness, lot of dark malt complexity and a beautiful herbal hop profile. I'm really impressed with this, unexpectedly this is one of the best black IPAs I've had, basically perfect. I love BIPAs and this is deservedly in the top50. Finishes hoppy and a tad sweet. Wow!

Looks a bit rubbish after the pour. Malty smell. Taste is bitter malt, some citrusy hop, a bit of liquorice.

Bottle. Hoppy and malty aroma, citrus fruit, light caramel and roasty notes. Tastes the same as aroma, alcohol well hidden, medium bitter. Full body, hoppy and malty bitter finish. Very good.

14 August 2018. At Cafinho, Piran. Cheers to Anke!
Pours hazy dark brown to black with a lasting, small, frothy, unstable, beige head; little lacing. Complex aroma of coffee bean, walnut, raisin, grapefruit peel, red grape, toast, orange rind, hint of port, fondant, sweetish cookie. Medium malty sweet onset, toasty with nutty edges, introducing the fruity, medium hoppy bitter middle, orange, grapefruit & (sourish) red grapes on top of a coffee note, already warming up in the throat. Dry, peppery & piney hoppy finish, lingering fondant & coffee with warming port-like alcohol. Medium to full body, creamy texture, fizzy carbonation. Exemplary Black IPA, a real treat.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours deep brown with an orage/reddish tint and a beige head. Some vague licorice in the nose and a little greasy hops. Medium body, some roastiness - quite a bit actually - and a bitter finish. Booze showing as well. Not really a convincing Black IPA this one. 300718

Bottle, 0.33l. Deep ruby pour, almost black. One finger frothy beige head, low to medium retention. Good lacing on the glass. Nice nose, good hop character, citrus and grassy. Subtle roasty notes. Medium body, soft carbonation. Thick texture, soft and creamy mouthfeel. Nicely balanced roasty bittersweet taste. Aroma follows, nice balance between malt and hop character. Roasted malts, caramel. Notes of cocoa. Herbal and grassy. Citrus fruits. Slightly peppery. Touch of alcohol, subtle burn on the tongue, drying mouthfeel. Long lasting finish, subtle lingering bitterness, a bit liquory. Overall, great black IPA. Balanced, smooth and tasty. One to go back to.
