Kveik (say it like “kwike”) means “yeast” in a particular Norwegian dialect. For generations, Norwegian brewers have been quietly passing down the yeast that ferment their unique, characterful farmhouse ales between family and friends. For our Annie we chose to brew a mild black IPA-ish beer to accompany the unique profile of this yeast. Cheers & Hurrah!

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is roasted malt with hoppy notes, soft fruits, touch of citrus, notes of coffee, chocolate and liquorice. Flavour is light to moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Body is medium. Hoppy Porter or Mild Black IPA is just about right. Anyway, pleasant beer.

Flesje gekregen van Tomhendriksen en thuis gedronken. Diep donkerbruin tot zwart bier met mooie beige schuimkraag. Aroma van koffie, pruimen en rozijnen. Smaak van koffie en karamel. Nasmaak is licht bitter.

Bottle. Black pour. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, peach, orange and creamy yeast. Taste has creamy chocolate, coffee, creamy yeast, orange, peach, some licorice and caramelised malt. Nice creamy black IPA.

It's often a pleasure to run into a black IPA, as not many get made. This one is made with kveik (which? I dunno, details people!), and is pretty light on the hops. Not a very great attempt, but certainly pleasant enough. Roast, hops, fruity and light.

Fles via Stadsbrouwerij Eindhoven, geprobeerd met Roelzie1986. Het is een diep donkerbruin bier met een beige schuim. Het heeft een gebrande moutige wat koffie achtige geur. De smaak is gebrande mout, chocolade, koffie en hop.
