It was great having Mortalis Brewing come to hang a few weeks ago. We all decided to pay homage to the Hops we use on a daily basis. Lupus Salictarius, which literally translates as “wolf of the willows”, is disputably the first hop plants and is said to be the botanical name immortalized by a famous Roman Philosopher (who is also an extremely tasty West Coast IPA. Respect). Tying into the Latin references Mortalis uses, we decided on a recipe that showcases some of our new favorite hops to pay homage to the OG of hops and Lupus Salictarius was born.

We started off with a base of 2 row, flaked oats and white wheat before adding a giant addition of Citra and Idaho7 in the whirlpool. We dry hopped with some of our favorites; Citra, Nelson, and Galaxy to finish it of with a big bang. This triple is an absolute explosion of tropical dankness. Big guava, sweet tangerine citrus, white grape, and a touch of passionfruit. It has a smooth but prominent chewy mouthfeel and has big notes of our signature EQJuice that really showcases what these hops have to offer.

Pint can at Battle of Bull, Cheras, Malaysia. Poured a hazy golden orange colour, with a frothy white head and some broken lace. The aroma is grainy malt, guava, orange and passionfruit citrus. The flavour is moderate bitter and sweet, with a fresh, smooth, rich, big juicy citrus, dank, light warm alcohol, floral hop palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Well hidden alcohol which seems the norm form Equilibrium.

Can from explosivedog: pours yellow haze with white head. Aroma is papaya, mango, general tropical stuff. Taste is sweet, almost no bitterness, great coverage of booze. It is truly hard to believe that this is 10.5% alcohol. Great juicy finish. Quite good.

Panda at home thanks to Colin. A hazed golden yellow coloured pour with a fine white head. Aroma is nice big grassy dank hop, grassy orange, hop dust, melon. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, wheaty grains, juicy fruit hops, grassy hop, background tropicals, melon. mango. Palate is semi sweet, rounded, hop oils, moderate carbonation. Good stuff.

Can at home, from CW online, 05/02/21. Hazed orange to light golde with a decent white cap that settles to a swirl and edgeing. Nose is putty, weed, pine resin, ripe melon, grass, grapefruit, pineapple. Taste comprises orange pith, weed, ripe melon, play dough, pine resin, light dextrose. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spliced witrh Decent punchy DIPA (TIPA) if a touch on the raw and unrefined side ... drinks easy for the double digit boost level

Can from Cloudwater. It pours cloudy bright yellow - gold with a thick, fluffy white head. The aroma is soft, sweet, juicy, tangy, pineapple, white grape, melon, greengage, apricot jam, sponge cake and just a touch of greenness. The taste is initially dry, bitter bite, then softens and juices up, tropical fruit action, nice pineapple action, guava, melon, greengage, white grape, sponge cake, floury bread, green, weedy, dank, bong rips, nip of spice and a touch of booze through the finish (but nowhere near 10.5%). Medium+ body and average carbonation. Flavourful, rounded and dangerously drinkable. Moreish.

Pours a hazy, golden-orange, with smallish head. Aroma is fruity citrus and tropical fruit, some dank and green notes. Flavor follows. Pretty sweet, though not cloyingly so. The ABV is well-hidden in aroma and flavor. This is a really tasty, well-done beer.
