In the past, due to lack of hygiene, drinking water was usually polluted with illness-causing bacterias. Beer did not contain such pathogens, as it was boiled and hopped. Therefore, until the end of the 19th century, beer was the preferred daily beverage. To keep a clear head, Bamberg's brewers had a special brewing technique to make low-alcohol beer. Hoppy, mildly smoky and with less than 1,2% alcohol the unfiltered Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Hansla brings back this old Bamberg brewing tradition.

Bottle at Berlin bar. Nice balanced fat smoked Aroma. Flavor is smoked , light malty, the nonalc is a bit too prominent.

Dark golden colour with thin head. Plenty of smokey bacon in the aroma. Sweet malty taste backed up with subtle, almost savoury smokey notes.

500mL bottle, pours a clear copper with a medium white head. Aroma brings out peated smoke, bready malt, and some light mineraly notes. Flavour certainly has a decent peated character, but it does taste rather washed out due to the very low alcohol. For an (almost) non-alc, this is well-done, but obviously can't compete with their other rauchbiers.

Hazy murky amber. Aroma is some smoke copper wood caramel and wet grain. Taste is somewhat sour grain with smoke and almost no body. Pretty watery. Interesting and worth a try but only okayish.

Bottle. Color: Hazy amber, off-white head. Aroma: Malty, smoke. Taste: Malty, some wort, subtle smoke, smoked meat. Light hoppy background. Moderate sweet, light bitterness. Long lasting moderate to over moderate bitter finish. Nice.

14/5/2022. Bottle shared by SHIG, cheers. Pours clear dark amber with a frothy off-white head. Aroma is heavily smoked, meaty, bratwurst, frazzles, smoked cheese, stale ashtray. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Light body, watery, average carbonation. Not my favourite style, and particularly didn't appreciate this one.
