We brewed a layered dream! A sweetly soft, robust and elegant flavored beer with plush vanilla and da Matteo roasted Colombian Tabi coffee. Then, we let it mature in lovely Whisky barrels. Avec deluxe!
Here at Dugges we love doing big luxurious stouts. We love doing coffee stouts. And, we love Vanilla. So, when we decided to do a beer for, first and foremost, America, these three things were always in the back of our heads. We also knew we had to go big. Wanting to really showcase Sweden and Gothenburg we reached out to Gothenburg coffee roasters da Matteo. They jumped on board and sourced a beautiful Tabi bean from Victor Barrera in Colombia which they gave a modern roast, really adding to the decadent stout and insane amounts of Vanilla. Then, we put that beer in a mix of peated and un-peated whisky barrels. All grown up!

330 ml bottle into snifter, bottled in 2/2019. Pours dense opaque dark brown/black color with a small fairly dense tan head with poor retention, that reduces to nothing pretty quickly. Minimal spotty lacing on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, medium roast coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, cream, whiskey, coconut, toasted oak, fudge, brownie batter, spicy rye, roasted nuts, biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, peat smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, brine, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oak earthiness. Mild booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, vanilla, coffee, scotch barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, medium roast coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, cream, whiskey, coconut, toasted oak, fudge, brownie batter, spicy rye, roasted nuts, biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, peat smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, brine, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oak earthiness. Mild herbal, grass, pepper, roast, char bitterness; and whiskey/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, medium roast coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, cream, whiskey, coconut, toasted oak, fudge, brownie batter, spicy rye, roasted nuts, biscuit, dark bread/crust, licorice, dark fruit, peat smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, brine, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, vanilla, coffee, scotch barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a fantastic roast/hop bitter/sweet, and whisky/oak spiciness balance; with no cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/roast bitterness, and whiskey/oak spiciness. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Light increasing warmth of 15%, with mild lingering barrel booze after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged flavored Russian imperial stout. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, vanilla, coffee, scotch barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV, with the mildly bitter/charred/tannic/drying finish; fantastic soft feel. Kind of a surprise for me, because I wasn't expecting Islay Scotch barrels; but it works perfectly well, and is not overwhelming on the barrel. Perfectly balanced between super rich oat/rye/malts, vanilla, fruity/nutty coffee, and scotch barrel presence/integration; with solid earthy hops, and restrained fruity yeast. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example as expected.

Tap. Brown color with beige head. Aroma is peated whisky, vanilla, chocolate. Taste is vanilla, chocolate, coffee stuff, peat again, actually the pastry stuff balanced the peat quite well. Thick mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Good idea!

Coffee ground and tons of vanilla on the nose. Heavy alcohol. Sweet with plenty of coffee and vanilla but also some peaty whisky. Mellows as it warms. Very good if you look past the coffee grounds in the nose but would have preferred less peat.
