Style: Blackcurrant/Raspberry American Sour

This indecently-hued American sour ale marries the complexity of juicy, ripe berries with a bright, clean acidity. Red ripe fruit is at the fore, while white oak adds a slight woodsy spice. Aged noble hops add a layer of earthy funk to the long, tannic finish.

Bottle from the source: pours maroon purple with a small white head. Aroma is raspberry and loads of it. Taste is lightly sweet. Loads of raspberry and I suppose blackcurrant. Really nice aftertaste.

Bottle thanks to Sanjay. Pours a cloudy light purple with large creamy off white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is strong currant, berry, lacto. Thin mouth, similar flavors to nose, nice tartness, light acidity, very good.

Pours bright purple into a snifter. Blackberry aromas. Sharp with bitter seeds and pith upfront continuing to tart bitter oak, skins and seeds in before the lasting sharp lactic finish.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 11/2015. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep ruby red/purple-ish color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy pink head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of huge sour raspberry, blackberry, currant, cherry, red grape, lemon, green apple, pepper, oak, hay, straw, musty funk, light leather, light red wine vinegar, wheat, cracker, and yeast/oak earthiness. Incredible aromas with awesome complexity and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, big juicy berries, oak barrel, and light bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big sour raspberry, blackberry, currant, cherry, red grape, lemon, green apple, pepper, oak, hay, straw, musty funk, light leather, light red wine vinegar, wheat, cracker, and yeast/oak earthiness. Good amount and fruity/acidic tartness and tannic oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of raspberry, blackberry, currant, cherry, red grape, lemon, green apple, pepper, oak, hay, straw, musty funk, light leather, light red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, juicy berries, oak barrel, and light bready malt flavors; with a great malt/tartness/spiciness balance and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, acidic/tannic, and lightly sticky/creamy/grainy balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Moderate dryness from acidity and tannic oak spiciness. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding fruited wild ale style. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, juicy berries, oak barrel, and light bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink with the balanced acidity. A highly enjoyable offering.
