Style: Blackcurrant/Raspberry American Sour

This indecently-hued American sour ale marries the complexity of juicy, ripe berries with a bright, clean acidity. Red ripe fruit is at the fore, while white oak adds a slight woodsy spice. Aged noble hops add a layer of earthy funk to the long, tannic finish.

Bottle shared at Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell - London. Many thanks to Manny G! Pours unclear red with a foamy, pinkish head. Nice jammy berry aroma, with some grape and faint dough. Light sweet flavor, dry, with seedy berries, blackberry. Light bodied with average, spritzy carbonation. Clean and dry on the finish, with bitter berry seeds, apple skin. Some berry tartness. Clean and nicely balanced.

Bottle thanks to Manny G for sharing. It pours murky deep purple with an off-white head. The nose is soft, fresh, sweet – sour, blackcurrant ham, musty, earth, Dandelion & Burdock and a touch of vanilla. The taste is crisp, sour, tart, juicy blackcurrant, tangy cherry, raspberry pip, good mouth-pucker, Granny Smith apple, lemon peel, decent acidity, Dandelion & Burdock and sour candy with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Seemed to divide the group, but I rather enjoyed it.

Nose is sweet red berry, plummy, light smoke, tarte raspberry, straw. Taste comprises earthy berry, raspberry pips, spice, straw, funk. Light wood. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close. Solid enough xour.

Draught at Bukowski’s Tavern, 12/1/15.
Very nice violet-crimson color to it, with a moderate haziness and small beige head atop showing average to low retention.
Nose is full of boisterous blackberry notes, with a good deal of toasted oak (though not as much as their goses, thank god), lots of black pepper and plentiful earthiness and funk on the end. Mildly acetic and very low malt character. No alcohol or flaw noted.
The first thing I notice, other than the blackberry character, which is authentic and nicely attenuated, is how damned dry and thin this stuff is. Way, way, way too much toasted oak dryness and astringent tannin with a high carbonation and sourness exacerbating things. Absolutely bone-dry, to a flaw, with just nowhere for all of this acidity/tannin to go. Zero sweetness but even worse, there’s no softness to the texture either. Nutty, earthy notes build up, with astringent tannin and fruit acids. Difficult to finish a small glass. I ordered a beer, not a glass of sour blackberry wine. More [expensive] crap from Grimm.

Draught. Hazy pinkish orange with foamy pink head (!), acidic aroma, tart raspberry flavored highly carbonated brew, slight hops bitterness at the end, longish tart finish. Quite interesting but enjoyable.

Draft, Ale House, Amesbury. Real nice pink/ lavender color, thin head white head. Aroma is oak and berries with a mild touch of funk

Flavor is pretty much as it smells, light sour oak and weak acidity. Almost a wine like tannic hint with good amount of berries. Drinkable.
