A well balanced dark mild ale with some bitterness, full bodied, but not overly sweet. An award winning mild that delivers a light fresh taste to one of the more traditional of beer styles.

Bottle from B&M. Inoffensive mild ale, black without a head. Some roasted aroma, little taste.

Gravity-fed cask at Barista, Chelmsford. Quite a basic mild, almost black with a tan head. Mild chocolate aroma. Not bad, inoffensive. but afraid there are much better milds about, maybe its aim at the โ€™younger palateโ€™ making it rather more bland...

500ml bottle - a solid black body with a thin beige head, a feint smoky nose, with a hint of mild fruits. First taste is a delicate malt, very thin palate, with a slightly acidic after taste. Nothing really screams out, it was just okay really.

Cask at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham Green - 21/04/12. Dark cola brown with medium off-white head. Sweet malt nose backed by hops and a little whiff of smoke. Malts, wood and a little dark fruit in the taste. Lightish bodied - a little on the watery side even for a mild, but drinkable.

500ml bottle at 3.8%. Pours dark cola brown with a medium head. Aroma is bready malt and raisin. Taste has a caramel sweetness to start and a watery, raisin and co2 finish. A little coffee bitterness.

50cl bottle from Tesco, ABV 3.8%. Deep magohany with a cherry red glow and a fading beige head; nutty, caramel, malty aroma; dry, with a earthy malt taste; and a very light touch of hops to lift and freshened the finish. A good mild.

The color is very dark, almost black, with creamy head. It has a mild and fresh aroma, light roasted malt and light apple juice, with traces of peach. The mouthfeel is light and smooth; the dark caramel and chocolate flavor is mild, subdued; it has a light fruity and lemony trace too. Balance and elegance. Some roasted malt appears in the final.
Excellent modern take for a Mild.

Draft. Clear dark brown beer. Soft palate. Very well balanced. Just a touch sour which makes it interesting. Malty sour with a little hop. Semi dry finish.

Cask at the Edgar Wallace. Pours a dark, ruby-brown with a slight, beige foam. Charming aroma, definitely some citrusy, resiny hops in there. Nice flavor, a tad soapy but some nice grapefruit, slight bread, juicy oranges. Weird, delicious, but nothing like the milds I know. More like a black IPA Iโ€™d say. Light to medium in body with fine to average carbonation. Some nice, understated bitterness in the finish, very citrusy with faint malts and fainter roast. The only thing holding this beer back are the soap notes. Otherwise, great stuff.
