On tap at Darby's, pours a cloudy dark red with a small beige head. Aroma brings out bready malt, light caramel, and a hint of toffee. Flavour is surprisingly nice, with a rich malty caramel character, some bready notes, and a bit of alcohol. Very nicely malty without being cloying. Surprisingly good.

Poured from the tap. Dark brown with small beige head. Molasses, light caramel, touch of booze. Too sweet, lacking depth, but not terrible.

'22 version. Light sweet brown sugar nose. Good body, sweet malt, medium alcohol heat. Smoke notes, needs more carbo. Not worth the trip or the price

Seasonal and different in different years. The barrel aged version in 2020 and 2021 was wonderful. 4.0 for me, well blended barrel aging on a very nice base Scotch ale. But something went horribly wrong in 2022, and the barrel aged version from 2022 is a drain pour. The barrel flavour is harsh, sour, and separate from the beer. The whole thing tastes off. Rating is a combination of very nice past beers with very awful recent versions.

'21 edition - Muddy brown body and okay foam, smells of soft dried sweet chocolate biscotti. Flavour is sweet biscuit and soft molasses, smooth and dry finish. Nice, chewy yet light. 6 3 6 4 13 = 3.1 '20 edition - good smooth beige foam and a deep blackish brown body. Aroma is soft fruity molasses, caramel sweetness, plenty of alcohol. Tastes of good fruity caramel, biscuit molasses. Smooth but the booze lingers. Adequate, a little blunt but still okay. 6 4 7 3 12 = 3.2
