Sheppy’s Vintage Reserve Cider is produced from entirely home-grown apples. It is a blend of one year’s harvest of the highest quality bittersweet apples such as Chisel Jersey, Yarlington Mill, Stoke Red and Tremlett’s Bitter. It is fermented and then matured in oak vats to achieve its fine, award winning full bodied flavour.

Bottled in my studio, London.Appears to be a new product. Labeled 2015. Clear gold. Effervescent apple. Dry, some oak, a little vanilla. Finish is especially dry with oak. Dry apple skin aftertaste. The oak works well with this cider.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at M&S. Vintage 2012. Pours clear gold with a faint bubbly topping. Pleasant aroma, with lightly aged and musty apples, nips of honey, apple skin. Medium sweet flavour with a lightly cutting musty dryness, hints of caramel, earth, leather. Medium bodied with faint carbonation. Somewhat drying on the finish, with further ripening apples, a little bitter skin, old hay. Fun one.

Bottle from Marks & Spencer, Manchester, as M&S Oak Aged Vintage Cider. Paler golden cider with a small dryness. Its apple is light, but its strength not overly evident.

Bottle. The M&S version. Clear, very pale gold. Nose has baked dessert apple. Some sweet oak. Some toffee apple. Taste is soft sweet. Minimal bitterness. Has a curious, rubbery thing going on. A bit of a flabby mouthfeel. Finishes light sweet, with a dry close. The oak seems to have mellowed out any apple tang or bitterness, and as a results feels a bit soggy, overall.

Bottle as M&S Oak Matured Vintage Cider 2015. It pours clear pale yellow with minimal head. The nose is quite earthy, apple skin, must, light funk, apple pie, touch of sherbet, hay and oak. The taste is crisp, relatively clean, apple skin, quite earthy, oak, apple pie sweetness, musty, barnyard funk and dry wood with a firm, dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not a whole lot of depth, but it is nice and dry. Decent.
