A much more assertive American style Imperial Stout than some of our more recent stouts. It has a firm bitterness, jet black color, roastiness, and chocolate sweetness.

Walnut, charred oak, cocoa nose. Black, thin tan head. Espresso, charred oak, cocoa, walnut, soil. Subtle mossy sumac finish. Full body, easy carbonation. Heavily toasted and wonderful. Hearty and robust.

Bottle at home. Opaque dark brown to black color, average to medium sized brown head. Smell and taste malts, dark malts, quite roasty, malt bitters. Not much more to it really. Okay.

650ml bottle [#183/600, Ghost 786, 10.0% abv]. Jet black colour with average to huge, thick, firm, creamy, moderately to mostly lasting, moderately lacing, dark beige to tan head. Roasty, minimally ashy, dark malty aroma, notes of coffee, mocha, Belgian chocolate, bitter hoppy counterpart with a touch of green onion lends some Black IPA aspects, whiffs of liquorice as well. Taste is roasty and chocolately dark malty, slightly ashy, minimally metallic, grassy hoppy counterpart, notes of coffee, Belgian chocolate, a touch of green onion, orange zest, some liquorice. Paradox light body and watery texture, smooth, soft, silky palate, fine and soft carbonation. Surprisingly light and drinkable considering the double digit abv, no longer a surprise for me. Half-way between Black IPA and Impy Stout. What is the secret of this brewery? Absolutely outstanding.
