Confoundingly unpronounceable yet eminently drinkable—welcome to §ucaba, an epic barrel-aged English barley wine whose original name was undone by a two‐bit legal challenge. Big, boozy bourbon and American oak aromas combine with soft chocolate malty undertones. Complex malt flavors are framed in oak with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, coconut and just a touch of dark cherry. §ucaba is built to last and can age for years to come (we recommend counting the years with an abacus).

12 ounce bottle from Tavour. Opaque dark brown pour. Creamy beige cap. Sweet toasted malt aroma has notes of oak, toffee, vanilla and bourbon. Some earthy malt notes as well. Flavor is sweet and boozy. Plenty of barrel and whiskey notes. Figs and black currants as well. Smooth and easy drinking for such a big beer.

2025 into a wineglass showing amber brown with sparse white foam.

The nose shows intense notes of sweet caramel.

The palate is light bodied and lightly carbonated. Dry with a bourbon forward vanilla smokiness throughout and a moderate hoppy bitterness on the finish.

Double whammy! This followed the FW Stickee Monkee. Alcohol burn apparent, but not overpowering. Pure barley essence, aroma and taste. A real gem.2014, 2015 & 2016 versions rated.

Kleur is helder diep bruin met een lichtbruine schuimkraag die snel inzakt. Geur is bourbon, zoetig, hout/tannines, cola, iets umami. In de mond: zoet, bourbon, houtig, boozy, iets fruit, sarsparilla. Smaak is zoet, houtig, lichtjes bitter. Behoorlijk sterk alcohol gevoel, warmend in de mond en keel. Body is medium (op z'n best). Lange nasmaak, zoetig, salmiak. Had iets dikker gemogen, maar sowieso heerlijk!

From Bine and Vine. 2023.

It pours a very dark brown with a small head of tan foam. Lacing and retention is excellent.

It smells of caramel malt, Bourbon, hints of maple syrup, overall sweet but not in a bad way.

The taste is caramel malt, some roast, Bourbon, maple syrup, dark pitted fruit. Delicious with the alcohol there but it is not intrusive.

Full bodied with good carbonation, I would drink this again. I will because I have 2 more bottles.

Sample during Blarney Wine Festival 2025 on 03/15/2025. Dark mahogany-brown pour with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily to a dense film. Sticky small patches of lace. Aroma of bourbon, oak, caramel malt and dark fruit. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, figs, earthy malt and a touch of hops. The finish is oaky with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Overall the OG is still a very enjoyable Barley Wine.
