Confoundingly unpronounceable yet eminently drinkable—welcome to §ucaba, an epic barrel-aged English barley wine whose original name was undone by a two‐bit legal challenge. Big, boozy bourbon and American oak aromas combine with soft chocolate malty undertones. Complex malt flavors are framed in oak with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, coconut and just a touch of dark cherry. §ucaba is built to last and can age for years to come (we recommend counting the years with an abacus).

4 oz. pour on tap at Boneyard Bistro (2014 vintage). Appearance is cloudy, dark amber-brown with no sparkle, thin ring of beige head and no lacing. Aroma is sweet caramel malts, bourbon background. Taste is sweet caramel malt with bourbon support. Mouthfeel is medium side of light-to-medium bodied with smooth, creamy texture, soft carbonation, mild pleasant alcohol warmth and finish as taste. Overall, a nice, rich sipper of caramel malt with great complementary bourbon barrel aging. Smooth and enjoyable though I didn't get all the layers of complexity.

A great example of its style, nicely malt forward, lots of dried fruit, heavy and a bit alcoholic. Nice balance between malty sweetness and big bitterness. Bourbon ageing adds complexity. Very very smooth, supple drinking yet clearly big and heavy.

Bomber från SB, vintage 2016. Mahogny/rostbrun med beige krona. Smådisig. Fat, bourbon, ek, kandisocker, knäck, kola, kokos, vanilj. Rejält mycket fat och trots stor kropp så är det bra åtstramat med väldigt mycket fatkaraktär. Också bra hetta och tydlig bourbonton. Rivigt, kaxigt och gott!

I have an appreciation for Firestone Walker. Time to see what Sucaba delivers. I’m opening the 2018 vintage 12 oz bottle and tilting into my ABGB tulip glass. The entry is a dark amber-brown completed with a thinnish light tan head. I lift for a smell, ripe fruit and bread. I have a sip, a large improvement against the nose. Figs, a little vinous, red fruit, chocolate, a woody background, grain. Nicely bitter with a small burn. It exceeds my expectations.
