A radically different beer... it has roast barley added to the pale and crystal malts. It has a deep burnished copper colour, a rich port wine aroma, a big chocolate and creamy malt palate and a dry, grainy, roasty finish balanced by hop bitterness and tart fruit. It is a remarkably complex beer that deepens and changes as you sup it.

Malt - Roasted Barley, Crystal & Pale Ale Malts

British pint at Shelter is a crystal clear caramel brown with a big cap of eggshell head. Caramel, brown sugar and treacle nose. Malt. Sweet tea. Flavor is sweet but also lots of tannins and tea and soggy bread. Off dry, tannic finish. Bang on for the style.

50 cl bottle from DeCicco’s in Armonk, NY. Dark reddish brown color is topped by an immaculate creamy beige head. Slightly fruity malt aroma. Tangy malt flavor upfront. Slightly toasty with a hint of caramel and dried fruit. Dry finish.

500ml bottle from Brewers Haven. Dark, clear amber pour, thin coating of fine foamy head. Light toasty malt aroma, notes of brown bread. Taste is malty, sweet, tobacco. Small bitter bite at the finish, which lingers for a bit. Better than overall score shows. I'd love to try this on cask.

500ml bottle purchased from Beers of Europe and drunk at home. Reddish chestnut and clear with a small off-white ring of head. Light aroma, mostly malty and bready character with some stone fruit and a touch of tamarind. Wonderful balanced taste, a little spicy and smoky and not too sweet. Bitterness is prevalent in the finish. Watery body with low carbonation. All in all a very good beer. Exceeded my expectations.

Bottle 50cl. @home poured into an English pint. Clear copper colour, good creamy off-white head, diminishing slowly to athick layer, fair lacing. Aroma sweet malts, caramel, some roast, liquorice, hay. Taste light to medium sweet and bitter, toffee, liquorice, nutty notes, Light to medium body, oily texture, semi-thin mouthfeel. Soft carbonation, smooth malty sweetbitter aftertaste, well-balanced, some cardboard, light roast till the end, more a best bitter – and not bad as such – instead of an old ale, nice.

Rocky white head stayed on a chestnut coloured body. Fruity & fried fruit aroma. Medium bodied, smooth with a lively clean back. Fruity, berries, caramel, liquorice & spiced tastes with a lightly hopped sweet finish. That's a good one.
