A radically different beer... it has roast barley added to the pale and crystal malts. It has a deep burnished copper colour, a rich port wine aroma, a big chocolate and creamy malt palate and a dry, grainy, roasty finish balanced by hop bitterness and tart fruit. It is a remarkably complex beer that deepens and changes as you sup it.

Malt - Roasted Barley, Crystal & Pale Ale Malts
Hops - Challenger/Mount Hood

500ml bottle from Beers Of Europe. Pours clear chestnut with a beige head. Aroma: biscuits, caramel, earthy hop. The taste follows, more caramel, hedgerow fruits, nutty, light grassy, wee metallic note. Light to medium body with moderate carbonation. Not memorable but I wasn't expecting much.

Sample thanks to Grumbo: Poured an amber with a off white whisper head. Aroma is a sweet malts, light cardboard. Taste is sweet sticky malts, lingers around the palate.

Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Pours a clear dark copper colour with hardly any head. Aromas of caramel, floral hops and biscuits. Taste is similar to the aroma with more caramel, floral and also some citrus, peppery spice, nuts and grassy notes. Light to medium bodied with a smooth oily mouthfeel and a fairly long floral/grassy hop finish. Ok but nothing special.

Brewed by Brakspear in Henley, says the label. Bottle. Nut brown color, hazelnut aroma. Rather thin. Licorice flavor with some hops, especially in the aftertaste, and mango. Good beer, but too thin to make a real impression.

500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours clear copper with a small beige head. Aroma is toasted malt, earthy hops, toffee. Taste is tangy, fruity, malt, herbal hops. To me it’s just an English bitter.

0.5l bottle. Malty aroma, light caramel notes, extra light hopy notes. Light hazy amber color, white head. Malty taste, hopy notes, light caramel, matured fruits notes, light to medium bitter. Medium to full body, slick to thick texture, soft to average carbonation and malty and hopy bitter finish. Good.
