India Pale Ales (IPAs) of old were heavily hopped to survive their journey to the colonies. This is Rob’s interpretation - believing the hops may have mellowed by arrival.

Malts: Maris Otter, Best Pale, Wheat
Hops: Chinook, Dana, Summit

Bottled. A golden beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of lemons, straw, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, straw, and cardboard, leading to a dry and bitter finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.

Take 2 - It’s the Bandstand Bar again 030912
Soft fruity citrus hop, nice fruity pale malts that are not too sweet. The palate had a good bitter sweet balance - OK it’s up to 3.7

Cask @ Bandstand Bar, Nairn. 08102011 7/4/7/4/14
Golden amber with thin white head...Aroma of citrus lemon orange hops....Taste - caramel fruity malts, honey, citrus hops with a bit of grass.....Palate...tangy citrus and hoppy bitter finish....Overall - More malt than expected for an IPA which reduces the hoppiness. Pleasant, drinkable beer.

Re-rating from cask at Caledonian Sample Rooms. More creamy on the pour and much more fruit on the nose and palate this time - reminiscent of grapes and grapefruit. Much better on cask! Original Rating from bottle on 26/03/2011 5/3/5/4/12 = 2.9. Dark golden with just a little head. The nose has sweet barley malt and green herby hops. The taste is more obviously hay and nettles. The palate is light to medium-bodied, dry and refreshing. Overall, a summer thirst-quencher, that gets better as you drink more.

Bottle from a very good offie in St Andrews, Fife, the name of which eludes me. Nose was fragrant and fruity, almost sickly, with notes of apples on the turn lingering in a damp shed. Fruitiness predominated in the taste with the hops not really being allowed to shine. The bitterness therefore lacked any real nuts, a crucial element for an IPA surely. Reasonable enough on the whole though, but the final sentence of the commercial description is well wide of the mark.

cask at Bow Bar - Pours copper-gold with the usual nice, lingering cask head. It smells of citrus accented hops. The flavor is mild to moderately bitter with some good grapefruit notes. Pretty good.
