Smoked Porter

Bottle, 355 ml at O’hara, Zagreb. shared with JFK10000. Pours dark brown, light smoke, chocolate. Sweetish. Very drinkable.

Bottled 355ml. -at O’Hara Zagreb. Nearly black coloured, small off-white head that went away fast, light roasty nose. Roasted malt, caramel, smoke and sugar with rather sweet finish. Far far away from smoked Bamberg beers.

Dark cola brown almost black, no head, only a tan ring. Aroma is smoked malt, bacon and chocolate. Taste is even more smoked and bacon flavored, very mildly sweet and mild chocolate and roast notes, some charcoal. Medium bodied.

O’Fallon Smoke. Bottle shared with Ribafish at O’Hara Zagreb, huge thanks Marin and Hrvoje! Poured a dark brown body with a teeny tiny off white head that went away fast. Oily aroma, smoked fish, just slightly sickly. Taste... smoked ham, but light with some soft maltiness. It’s allegedly usually better, but this bottle was underwhelming I’m afraid. Shame.

From a 12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy cola with an ecru head. Aroma of toasted nuts. Flavors of burnt sugar. Smooth and creamy textures. Mellow finish. Nice beer.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours clear very dark reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, smoked meat, roasted malt, toast, biscuit, light coffee, light nuttiness, herbal, and toast/smoke earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance of dark/bready and smoked malt notes; with good strength. Taste of chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, toast, biscuit, smoked meat, light raisin, light coffee, light nuttiness, herbal, and toasted earthiness. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, toast, biscuit, smoked meat, light raisin, light nuttiness, herbal, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a bit. Nice balance of dark/bready malt and moderate smoked malt flavors, but lacking in robustness; zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy, smooth, and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice smoked porter. Good balance of dark/bready malt and moderate smoked malt flavors; and very smooth to drink. Not as robust or smokey in the flavor as I had hoped for, but nicely enjoyable otherwise.

Bottle. Meaty smoke, chocolate and coffee malt aroma. Dark brown with a small tan head. Moderate smoke, chocolate/coffee malt and light acidic flavor. Light to medium body, moderate carbonation. Smokiness is well balanced and not overpowering. Very nice.

bottle - Pours very dark brown with a small tan head. The aroma is predominately smoke with some roast malt backing it. It tastes of smoke, roast malty sweetness, and chocolate. Good.

Purchased at Armanetti’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on a slightly boring Monday night after a long work day. Appearance is a cola like black with not much head, tiny carbonation bubbles rising to the top. Aroma of smoked malt, a hint of vanilla, a bit of wood. The taste is fantastic, the smoke flavor is incredibly dark, has a nice complexity, almost like a campfire with a slight jerky-like backing. There’s definitely better smoked porters out there (see Stone...) but this one ain’t bad.

Dark with a tan head. Aroma is smokey, but not overpowering so, light roasted malts, chcolate, molasses and a bit of earthy hops. Medium smooth body. Flavor picks up on the smoke but still has decent amounts of cocoa, roasted malts, and molasses running through it. A nice and easy smoked porter.
