We've got friends in remote places, Alaska being one of them. Sassan and Brian from Denali Brewing Co. packed their bags with 30 pounds of Chaga mushrooms from Alaskan birch trees and embarked on the long journey through foreign lands and over the arctic just so that we could brew with it. Chaga has been known as a medicinal plant for ages. Denali is not only a brewery, once again it is also the name of the highest mountain in North America

Bottle at tasting. Aroma of weird herbs and roast. Flavor of strange sweet herbs, chocolate cream and red fruit. Not getting any mushrooms. It’s interesting, but not really good.

On tap at Patricks. A black one, topped by a nice dense light tan head. Cute lacing. The aroma is roasted and lightly sweetish, with licorice, some coffee and a faint hint of old forest. Some faint alcohol too. It’s smooth, full bodied and nicely carbonated with a pleasant warmth. Roasted malts, licorice, coffee and a nice bitterness. Some herbal and forest-like notes. Lasting roasted and sweet finish with licorice and a light herbal bitterness. Quite lovely this one, but I wouldn’t mind it being even more complex. 160213

28.01.2016, 0,5l bottle @ home:
Nice light brown creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is kind of raw and unbalanced - dry roasted, weeds, roasted grain, yeast, cocoa, nuts, minerals, alcohol, bark. Taste is dry mineraly, weeds, burnt grain, minerals, bark, toast, cocoa, grass, burnt coffee, dark malts, alcohol, yeast. Medium bitterness, dry mineraly mouthfeel. Boring, seems unfinished, or needs time in the cellar maybe...

50cl bottle from Vinmonopolet Asker. Pours pitch black with a decent, beige head. Roasty aroma with dark chocolate, dark fruits, licorice and hints of spices and coffee and some earthy notes. Moderate to medium sweet with nice roasty flavours and a slighty dry finish with a balanced bitterness. Tasty and quite delicious!
