Kveik is a collective term for a family of Yeast strains from the area formerly known as Hordaland in Norway. They are renowned for fermenting very quickly and cleanly. We wanted to try one of these strains for a hazy, hoppy IPA using a juicy trio of Citra, Galaxy and Mosaic Hops. The beer is light in colour and bursting with flavours of Pineapple, Peach and Grapefruit. Intense tropical fruit flavours of Lychee and Guava resonate throughout and it finishes with a gentle bitterness.

Canned (Alko Web). Hazy yellow colour, small white head. Aroma is fruity, nectary, some mild toffee tones. Flavour is floral, fruity and somewhat watery as for the palate. Surprisingly boring for Thornbridge.

Sample, thanks oh6gdx! Hazy pale amber, mid sized head. Aroma of tangerine, bread and mushrooms. Dry with medium body and crisp, rounded mouthfeel. Crackers, tangerine and pears. Mid bitter finish. Harmonious and pleasant.

440 ml can, as Thornbridge Hordaland Kveik IPA, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 6.0%. Cloudy yellow to orange colour, moderate white head. The aroma has notes of fruity kveik and fruity hops, hints of citrus, yellow stonefruits, pineapple, lychee and guava. Fruity flavour too, not too sweet, with the same elements as the aroma. Moderate to low bitterness.

Can 440ml (Alko web)
Murky orange colour, medium-sized off-white head. Typical fruity-yeasty Kveik aroma. Medium-bodied. Overriped tropical fruits, some hay and citrus, a bit of alcohol even. Ok but not really something to have more.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from HOTM. Pours deeply murky orange with a foamy, white head. Modest sweetness, fairly dry, some orange peel, flinty minerality, pine needles, clean pale bread, lemon rind. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Subtle warmth in the finish, more flinty dryness, pithy citrus, rindy-piney bitterness. Interesting, enjoyable.
