Did you know that IPA stands for Indian Pale Ale, and that it was originally brewed for sale in India, becoming popular in the UK following a shipwreck in the Irish Sea in 1827, when barrels of IPA were auctioned off in Liverpool? IPA is one of Cains’ best selling ales: a refreshing session beer, with a subtle hop aroma and a light, yet full flavour

From cask at Charlies. Pours clear and golden orange with a small off-white head. Aroma is mild fruity. Flavour is the same, rather thin hops profile for an ipa. Mild fruity and light bitterness. Lasting peachy and applefruity into the finish.

Cask@GBBF 2009. Copper brown color, small white head. Strong toffee in the nose. Light nutty and caramelly flavor. Dry aftertaste. Not too bad session ale, but not much of IPA.

Cask@GBBF2009. Ambery golden colour, not much head. Aroma is mildly fruity, some wooden notes as well as mild herbal notes. Flavour is quite much the same with rather earthy notes.

Pale brown colour with well retained head. Fresh, hoppy flavour with a pleasant dry, bitter finish. Does not have masses of flavour but is a good, easy to drink session beer.

Clear, dark amber body with laceworks on the glass. Sweet fruity aroma. Dark bitter fruity smell leading to a smooth bitter ending. Diluted in the mouth and rather thin palate (Cask, third pint at GBBF, 07.08.2008).

Keg at Doctor Duncan’s, Liverpool. Amber colour with lasting biege head. Served well chilled. I can’t believe I’m doing this. Great Cain’s pub and beer and I’m drinking a keg version of a cask beer (the cask version was also on). Nitro beer flavour, some hop towards the finish. It’s too cold. Got some caramel malt in mouth. To be honest the normal IPA isn’t my favourite beer, it’s just a little "so what?" Lacks body. Miminal malt/hop aroma. Some toffee in mouth, touch of hop bite on end. Not terrible, just gold and thin in flavour.

Can
Amber color. Too light aroma. Some malt, also the taste, with a lot of caramel; correct bitterness. Not an IPA!
