In this epic battle, the Blood of the Unicorn has been shed by the sword of the deadly assassin of the east. One sip of this aggressively hopped red ale clearly reveals what drives these, the greatest of, hop heads of lore. Is this the end of the mythical horned horse? Or will he rise like the phoenix to fight another day?

Bottle. A clear, glowing reddish dark golden beer topped by a dense, minimal sized light beige head. The aroma is resiny and citrusy, with caramel maltyness and a nutty touch. It’s full-bodied and lightly warming on the palate with a nice carbonation level. Bitter, resiny flavor with orange zest, caramel and a nuttyness. Quite dry. Lasting finish with caramel and a good bitterness and oranges. Quite nice this one, but I think it’s a tad too dry actually. 141219

Bottle shared at the Richmond Industry Gathering. First Pipeworks beer I’ve tried, and this was a little late in the tasting, so I basically picked it out based on the name. Pours a clear copper color with a medium sized frothy head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toffee, herbal hops and stone fruits. The taste is toffee with herbal, citrus and minty hops. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness. Decent.
