Bottle from Belly Rub Beer, Scarborough. Pours deepest dark brown with a thick tan head. Heavy roast aromas, liquorice, black malt fruitiness, faint roasted coconut. Taste is roasted bitter, dark bitter chocolate, stewed prunes, pontefract cakes. Roasty finish.

Cask at Alexandra, Derby. Pours almost black with a small beige head. Oats and malt together in the aroma. The mouth sees oats again together with liquorice as the main flavours. Also lurking there are brandy and dark fruits. Quite a bitter finish. A solid stout but not outstanding.
