Cask at the Fox & Hounds, West Burton. I've always detested this in keg and can so was interested to see what it was like in cask. Lookswise, it's much the same -amber-brown with a white head and a light sparkle (it was served in very good condition). The taste though is massively better - a decent malty flavour with sweet toffee, nuts and a dry woodiness, followed by a pleasant balancing bitterness. It is, admittedly, rather thin and watery, but that almost makes it more drinkable, and thus more suited to it's role as a session bitter. I was pleasantly surprised by this (especially the woodiness); it's such a shame that its reputation has been so badly tarnished by the godawful keg version.

Dark amber to chestnut colour, moderate sized slightly amberish white head; aroma of toasted rye bread, some floral, toasted nutty and butterscotch notes; taste of dried fruity, roasted nutty, butterscotch and floral notes; surprisingly good ale...or maybe it is just because of the atmosphere ( tasted in a pub in England during the semi-final of Englad vs. Croatia at 1:0) :)

Can at home as a somewhat dubious gift from my sister-in-law. It poured well with a good head that lasted and lasted. The taste was that of a watery bitter, but with a very nice mouthfeel from the delivery system. I remember why I never drink this stuff.
