In 2018 we challenged ourselves to using an array of fruit new to our palates and practices. When offered a high quality, freshly picked Black Currant sample, we couldn't resist. We present to you a metamorphosis for your sense. Using 12-36 month aged Agrestic Ale as a base, to which we add1.5lbs/gal Black Currants, the beer undergoes the final maturation in our French Oak "Fruiders" for an additional four months. A convergence of supple tanning and deep purple pigments, gooseberry jam, a month-watering acidity and earthy leather elicit notes of a beer having vinous roots. A new variant to one Barrelworks pioneers is born. Santé!

Tap at MBCT late in the first day. It was a deep purple red with a pink somewhat tan head and of course a berry aroma. Light bodied dry and acidic with good tart berry notes.

Nice fizzy-creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly dry sour-ish fruity, soda powder, fruit stones, berry skin, dry black currants, sorrel, bark, alcohol, oak, caramel malts, minerals, hints of mild vinegar. Taste is dry sour-ish fruity, soda powder, sour black currants, berry skin, sorrel, minerals, oak, red currants, cranberries, mild vinegar. Medium bitterness, slightly dry sour-ish fruity mouthfeel. Nice.

375ml corked and caged bottle. Pours an unclear magenta with a medium, foamy, long lasting, pink head that leaves curtains of lace. Tart aroma of blackcurrant, funk, red wine and oak. Sweet flavour of black currant, raspberry, cranberry, red wine, lemon, funk and oak with a dry, sour, acidic finish. Light to medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation. Tasty and complex.

Tap into a taster at MBCT showing deep dark red and cherry stained sparse foam. The nose shows moderately intense tart notes of dark forest fruit - blackberry, blueberry, cherries. The palate is well carbonated and light bodied. Very hints of currants and a slight vegetal note throughout. Moderately tart.

Tap @ Mikkeller Beer Celebration Tokyo, Yellow Session. Nice red pour with totally red, pretty red, foam actually. Nose has some currants, light tartness, not too sweet. Tastes tart, good currants character, vanilla and spices. Clean and flavourful wild ale. Juicy and smooth with a dry finish.

lovely deep punk purple color. Excellent bright fruit character. Nice underlying tartness. Nice medium oak, the lingering fruitiness is awesome. So well balanced.

Tap. Purple color with pink head. Aroma is blackcurrant, fresh yeast, a bit barrel funky leather, tobacco. Taste is blackcurrant skin, tannic, some green stuff, leaves-like, leather. Dry finish. Silky mouthfeel with fizzy carbonation. Very good!Tap again, without knowing I'd had it before - same score.
