Smooth and satisfying, this example of an historic style of beer derives its rich, chocolatey character from a blend of Brown and Chocolate malts in the brew. Its notable coffee notes and creamy finish make it a wonderful accompaniment to many sweet foods – especially chocolate pudding. 5.4% ABV.

Pours a quite deep black color, topped with an average tan colored head. Standard pleasant roasted aroma, notes of caramel and coffee can also be picked up. Sweet start, roasty with some little bitterness and coffee notes later on. More than decent, this one.

Bottle at home, 7th December 14. Dark, rich smooth. Good for the ABV, enjoyed it, not a patch on the Kernel Export Stout I had after though.

11.2oz bottle. Deep brown-burgundy body. Thin beige head. Roasty sweet chocolate aroma. Sweet, nutty tinged brown malts. More like a Brown Ale than I had remembered. Has some of that bakers brown chocolate tones I sort of associate with Eastern European beers, Dunkels ect. An enjoyable enough beer, but not so impressive for the style.

Bottle. Appearance is very dark, a slight brown tinge at the base. Two-finger mocha-coloured pillowy head which slowly sinks. Aroma- lots of chocolate malt, dark fruit hints, blackcurrant, liquorice, cocoa powder, milky coffee, some hops detectable. Taste is lovely- smooth, hints of dark fruits which give way to milky chocolate, some coffee, hint of espresso, hop bitterness, a bit creamy but not an overly full mouthfeel. The finish is quite long. An excellent porter.

Mørk rødbrun med lavt lys brunt skum. Brendt malt, sjokolade og brendt karamell. Søte smaker av sjokolade og karamell, hint av blimsterbitterhet i avslutningen. Lite kullsyre.

Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving a really nice looking foamy clingy lacing sticking around the glass.
The smell had a nice sweet to roasty to earthy chocolate maltiness combining wonderfully in a light bitter under current of coffee. Continuing on as it warms, there’s a nice light vanilla arising to complement the rest of the flavors.
The taste took all of those previously mentioned flavors and combined them pretty well. There’s no aftertaste but it has a decent dry sweet chocolate finish.
On the palate, this one sat right at a medium on the body with a slight sessionability about it.
Overall, I say this was a wonderful English Stout to have again.

500ml bottle. Pours extremely dark brown with burnt toast and liquorice aroma. Taste has an initial sweetness of rich caramel and chocolate with charcoal earthiness, chocolate malts and a long bitter linger.
